Buying Banned Cards?

Many of you are aware that Konami decided to errata and unban several banned cards in the OCG, which in turn caused their prices to spike drastically in the TCG. After all, these were the cards that defined the meta at one point. But is their price really justified? For most - no. But for some, maybe.

Imperial Order will almost definitely be used as a Side Deck staple in decks that can afford it. However with the inability to stop Pendulums, players may prefer Fragrance. Rescue Cat will most definitely be abused in the future, and Future Fusion still has the potential to be extremely abusable even with the requirement of waiting a turn before dumping. The others? Perhaps their 200-500% price spikes are a little too much, and should be sold now, especially with future reprints of the once banned cards guaranteed.

What's interesting about these recent price spikes and erratas are the precedent for what it sets up in the future. It's almost nearly guaranteed now that every banned card will come off the ban list with an errata (at least in the OCG). When they do, it's guaranteed that the TCG will experience a price spike for that card out of anticipation.

Does this make it a good investment move to start investing in high rarity banned cards? If you are willing to potentially wait several years - then absolutely. With a near guarantee of at least 100% gains, it would be foolish not to invest in high rarity banned cards now if you are able to hold on to them for several years.
